What a Way to Start the New Year!

Thursday January 1, 2009
In the article How to Utilize the Berkshire Hathaway Model in Your Own Life, I explained that one of the most important keys to financial and investing success was to have a set of diversified cash generators that provided you a constant stream of funds for redeployment into other investments such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and real estate. Today, at approximately 8 p.m., one of my companies rolled out its newest ecommerce site selling home accessories and luxury gifts (such as shaving sets, cashmere scarves, gifts for men, etc.). Despite the credit crisis, we are still investing, and hope to create many, many American jobs in the future.

Times like this are often scary. That's understandable. They are also dripping with opportunity, like low hanging fruit in an orchard. As other people cut back, sell their investments at losses, and contract, you can take your years of carefully gathered knowledge and experience, put it to work in a field you understand, and lay the foundation for huge gains when things rebound. It may take some time, but who cares? If you do what you love, that won't matter.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be researching new contribution limits, retirement strategies, and more to update the content on the site. In the meantime, be happy! It's a new year, the stock market has done decently well of late thanks to some optimism on Wall Street, and the sun still came up this morning. It's going to be okay.
