Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller
by Ron Chernow
Guide Rating -
Pros  • Chronicles the journey of a poor young man who started with nothing but God and ambition and ended up with one of the largest concentrations of wealth and power in history.
• Examines Rockefeller's business practices, most of which can be applied to any entrepreneur or manager.
•
Available in hard bound and paperback
Cons  • n/a
The Bottom Line - Titan is by far the best biography I have ever read.  Chernow writes in a way that makes the reader feel as if they are reading a novel, while at the same time giving all of the details and information one would expect from a two-volume life study.  This book should be required reading for every manager and business owner.

Guide Review
When John D. Rockefeller purchased his first oil refinery, he went home, walked into his bedroom and fell on his knees.  Alone, he uttered a single prayer, "Lord, bless my enterprise."  Years later, he was the wealthiest man on the face of the earth, giving away more money than many of his contemporaries.  In Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller, Ron Chernow crafts an amazing story of how one of America's original tycoons built one of the most successful companies in history.
